QLogic has announced availability of its 8100 series converged network adapters (CNAs). According to the company in this TMC article, the 8100 supports simultaneous data and storage networking across a 10GbEE Ethernet connection while supporting PCI Express Gen2 data transfer on the host side.

"The 8100 supports simultaneous data and storage networking across a 10GbEE Ethernet connection while supporting PCI (News - Alert) Express Gen2 data transfer on the host side. It consolidates the data networking of a NIC with the storage networking of a Fiber Channel Adapter onto a single 10GbE Ethernet adapter, resulting in significant datacenter cost savings while preserving existing investment in Fiber Channel storage and tools.

"These CNAs remove the need for adapters/cards, cabling, power, cooling, and management costs by enabling LAN and SAN convergence which in turn brings down the total cost of ownership. When combined with an FCoE-capable switch, they work seamlessly with existing Fiber Channel storage, switches, and existing management utilities."
