Sourcefire, the creator of Snort, has announced that the Sourcefire Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) now integrates with Citrix NetScaler. As noted in the company's news release statement, this provides businesses with increased application availability and protection.

"Delivered as integrated physical devices or virtual solutions residing on a single box, the combination of Sourcefire and NetScaler helps businesses prevent operational disruptions caused by poor application performance due to increased workloads or security threats.

"The Sourcefire IPSTM now provides customers with real-time awareness of the applications on their network, so that they can tune protection and configure Citrix NetScaler load balancing to ensure optimal uptime, performance and availability. The solutions have been tested and are being delivered as both integrated physical appliances and as virtual solutions which can reside on the same machine, minimizing the IT footprint and hardware resources."
