According to a press release on Zaywa.com, NEC Unified Solutions has just introduced an advanced solution for Fixed Mobile Convergence called Smart Mobile Client. Developed with the help of CounterPath Corporation, it will allow customers to save roughly 30-percent on cellular mobile costs. Available PBX routing schemes will result in substantial savings on roaming costs for international calls as well.

"'Smart Mobile Client R2.2 provides users of popular enterprise smart phones, such as the Blackberry 9700, Nokia E72/N97 and Apple iPhone, with the experience of having full access to their company's communications network while on the move,' says Bert van Koelen, Business Manager at NEC Unified. 'The NEC solution provides users with mobile unified communications functionality, by extending enterprise telephony, voicemail and corporate directory services - together with presence, instant messaging and conferencing capabilities - to smart phones over cellular networks as well as through Wi-Fi.'"
