Earlier this month, Federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra said the government plans to shut down 800 data centers by 2015. Today, The Wall Street Journal reports that 137 federal data centers will be closed or consolidated by the end of 2011.

Sixteen agencies will be affected by the move, including the Defense Department, which will see the most closures -- 57 in total. For the moment, White House officials are not saying how many estimated government and contractor jobs will be lost as a result of the closures and consolidations, says WSJ.
