Software maker CA, formerly Computer Associates, is rebranding itself as CA Technologies. The new name aims to better describe what the company does and eliminate the firm's search results relating to California rather than CA.

The announcement was made as the orginization kicked off its CA World show in Las Vegas, V3.co.uk reports. In addition to the name change, CA Technologies CEO Bill McCracken touted the importance of cloud services saying:

I don't think [cloud is] going to happen, I know it's going to happen.

Mike Vizard at IT Business Edge says the rebranding, along with CA Technologies' more than 20 acquisitions since 2004, represent the company's shift to cloud computing. McCracken also emphasized cloud security with the unveiling of Cloud Commons, a website dedicated to helping users make better sourcing decisions about the cloud.
