Dell to Buy Scalent

Dell is purchasing Scalent, a provider of server virtualization-management software.

Dell has agreed to purchase Scalent, a private company that provides software that makes data center infrastructure dynamic, easily scalable and highly efficient, V3.co.uk reports. Dell intends to integrate Scalent's software into its Advanced Infrastructure Management suite, a key component of the company's Virtual Integrated System.

Brad Anderson, Dell senior vice president, Enterprise Product Group, said:

Scalent provides a critical building block for our Virtual Integrated System, the most open, capable and affordable converged infrastructure solution available. This acquisition will solidify an important component of our enterprise solution portfolio. Scalent's open architecture is an example of Dell's ongoing commitment to provide customers with solutions that don't lock them into proprietary hardware or gateways.

Dell expects to compete its purchase of Scalent by the end of July.
