Facebook Announces Expansion of Oregon Data Center

Facebook has decided to expand its first wholly owned data center.

Last January, it was reported that Facebook was considering expanding its data center in Prineville, Ore. The consideration is over as Facebook will indeed begin construction on a second facility on its Oregon property.

The expansion is needed as Facebook has added 400 million users since it announced its first facility in Prineville 18 months ago. While the second building will only add about 10 jobs to the Prineville campus, the construction of the new facility will also bring temporary jobs to Crook County, which has the state's highest unemployment rate, according to GeekWire.
