The IEEE Standards Association announced the ratification of IEEE 802.3ba 40Gbps and 100Gbps Ethernet, a new standard governing 40Gbps and 100Gpbs Ethernet operations. According to the association, the ratification paves the way for the next generation of high-rate server connectivity and core switching, reports Network World.

The specification is the first to simultaneously utilize two new Ethernet speeds. Companies such as Cisco and Juniper have been trialing 100G Ethernet products since late last year, says HardwareHeaven.com.
