Oracle Won't Kill Sun Container, Won't Promote It Either

Oracle will continue selling Sun's data center container, but not as part of its official product line.

Oracle will continue to sell Sun Microsystems' Black Box data center containers but the solution will not be part of Oracle's regular product line. Oracle will not maintain an inventory of the data center containers, which have been rebranded as Sun Modular Datacenter, but will build one upon customer request, according to Data Center Knowledge.

The cloud has given the concept of containerized data centers a renewed push, notes our Arthur Cole. So much so that the real question has become whether to go with a custom or standarized container. Earlier this week, eBay submitted a RFP on designs for a rooftop container installation.
