Salesforce.com Looks to Expand Client Base with Tokyo Data Center

Since many Japanese businesses are uncomfortable with having their data overseas, Salesforce.com will open a data center in Tokyo to broaden its client base in the country.

Salesforce.com will open a new data center in Tokyo next year in a move to earn the confidence of its Japan-based clients and to expand its business in the region, says theWHIR.com.

Currently, Salesforce's Japanese clients are served from facilities in the U.S. and Singapore. Once the data center is completed in Tokyo, the company's Japan-based clients will have the option of moving their data to the Tokyo site. Salesforce aims for the Tokyo-based facility to increase its annual sales in Japan to 100 billion yen from its current 10 billion yen, Data Center Knowledge reports.

Salesforce will be able to offer Japanese customers unparalleled access to information to just about any company as the result of its recent acquisition of business contact data company Jigsaw. Salesforce customers will be able to use the data to track potential customers, which is very good news for sales and marketing efforts, says Charlene O'Hanlon over at our CTO Edge site.

Japanese multinational Fujitsu announced expansion of its global partnership with Salesforce to help companies move to the cloud, according to TMCnet. As part of the seven-year partnership, Fujitsu will serve as one of Salesforce's global system integrators to ensure the companies global customer bases with consistent service across all locations. As a result of the expanded deal, Fujitsu says it will significantly bolster investment in its consulting and sales capacity.
