A failed transfer to generator power brought down about 3,000 customer servers at an iWeb data center late Wednesday night. Some affected customers were without their servers for as long as 13 hours.

While all three of the data center's generators started properly, one of the transfer switches failed, prompting a loss of power to one-third of the facility once UPS power was exhausted, says Data Center Knowledge. Approximately 450 servers needed manual attention to be restarted according to the iWeb Blog, which kept a running account of the incident.
