Brocade's Ruckus wireless business unit is no longer just about wireless and soon it will no longer be part of Brocade either. Ruckus today announced a new wired ICX 7150 Z-Series Switch switch alongside a new and ZoneFlex R720 wireless access points.

Brocade acquired Ruckus Wireless in April 2016 for $1.5 billion. Brocade in 2017, however, is now in the process of being acquired by Broadcom in a $5.9 billion deal. As part of the Broadcom acquisition, Brocade is shedding its IP-networking assets including Ruckus.

Ruckus is set to be acquired by Arris, in a deal valued at $800 million and also includes parts of Brocade's ICX switch business. The Arris/Ruckus deal is expected to close in August after the Broadcom deal closes.

As part of getting ready for the move to Arris, Ruckus has now dropped the 'Wireless' moniker from its brand and is adding the ICX 7150 Z-Series wired switch.

The ICX 7510 series switch are available in both 24 and 48-port versions. The top end ICX 7150-48ZP isa 48-port switch that supports multigigabit technology (IEEE 802.3bz) with 100Mbps/1Gbps/2.5Gbps capable ports. Power over Ethernet (PoE) plus is supported with a maximum output of 1480 watts across the 48 port chassis.

"The expansion of Ruckus to include both wired and wireless products is a tremendous opportunity for us to carry forward the outstanding ICX product line and technology innovation we have gained as part of Brocade," Dan Rabinovitsj, chief operating officer of Ruckus, a part of Brocade, said in a statement. "The combination of the product lines mean we can offer our partners a comprehensive set of access infrastructure and meet customers’ networking needs beyond simply wireless, without sacrificing performance."

On the wireless side the new Ruckus ZoneFlex R720 Access Point is a 4 stream dual-band 802.11ac Wave 2 AP access point. Of note, in addition to the typical 10/100/1000 wired Ethernet connectivity it also has and one 2.5 GbE port.
