Novell Aims Standards-Based Mail/Calendar Server at Exchange

Novell's NetMail XE is aimed at organizations interested in simplifying their mail services without switching from their Windows-based servers.

Novell has announced Novell NetMail XE 3.1, which the company is pitching as a "low-cost, secure and uncomplicated alternative to Microsoft Exchange for small businesses with Windows networks." The product provides both mail and calendaring functionality.

Novell says NetMail XE 3.1 runs under Windows NT/2000/XP server platforms right out of the box, using the management features that are included in Windows and works with most common e-mail clients owing to its use of common, open standards. It also features features spam e-mail control and anti-virus support, and enables users to synchronize e mail, calendar and address book data to their Palm OS and Pocket PC PDA devices from any client workstation.

Novell NetMail XE 3.1 for small businesses is now available through Novell Authorized Resellers and solution providers for a suggested $295 for 10 users, $495 for 50 users and $995 for 250 user licenses. For more information, visit http://www.novell.com/products/netmailxe.
