Astaro Corporation has released the latest version of its Unified Threat Management software, adding improved protection for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications, increased protection from "zero-day attacks," and enhanced configuration options to its Linux-based offering.

Astaro Security Linux 6.0 is a seven-in-one network security package that provides a firewall, virus protection, intrusion protection, spam protection, spyware protection, surf protection (content filtering) and VPN.

The company says its new release includes several new features, including Linux kernel version 2.6, which Astaro says will increase the software's capacity, and improve its hardware and device support.

The package also includes a new SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) Proxy for securing VoIP) communications, anomaly-based intrusion protection that utilizes both a database of intrusion threat signatures and added means to detect "zero-day-attacks," a new bridging mode for its firewall to spare admins the need to reconfigure IP spaces in existing networks, and a variety of options for setting filtering policy, including time-based packet filtering, and policy-based routing.

The company also announced that it has added enhanced integration with Novell eDirectory for customizable identity management and remote access security.

Astaro Security Linux V6 software will be available on July 1. The software will also be available on the Astaro Security Gateway line of appliances beginning in mid-July. Pricing starts at $330 for a base license for 10 users.
