Websense has announced version 6.1 of its Web filtering security software, with enhancements designed to make content filtering for remote workers and delegated administration easier.

The company said Websense Enterprise 6.1 includes email and onscreen alerting of activities outside established policy parameters, enhanced real-time security updates and the ability to more easily customize certain filtering options. It also said an enhanced reporting features targets growing regulatory compliance concerns.

In addition to new features, the company said its Websense Client Policy Manager (CPM) now integrates with Cisco's Trust Agent and Network Admission Control (NAC) architecture to provide enhanced visibility into security issues at the network level. The company said deploying CPM on employee desktops will provide additional policy compliance by alerting a NAC-enabled network of non-compliant devices, applications, and application usage. Non-compliant devices can be quarantined or given access to a restricted set of network resources.

Websense Remote Filtering is designed to apply Internet usage policies to remote and mobile workers outside the organizational firewall. The company said the primary goals of its protection include blocking access to phishing sites, sites spyware, and sites corrupted with malicious code.

Websense Reporting Tools are included at no extra charge with all Websense web filtering and web security products. The company said new features in the tools include remote filtering reporting, designed to provide details on end-user internet activity regardless of where they obtain access; and flexible reporting options with the choice to report based on security risk, legal liability, productivity loss, network bandwidth loss, and business usage risk classes.

Version 6.1 of Websense Enterprise, Websense CPM, Websense Web Security Suite, Websense Web Security Suite—Lockdown Edition, and Websense Remote Filtering will be available Monday, October 17, 2005. A free 30 day trial is available at www.websense.com.
