Tarantella, a supplier of Internet infrastructure software, has released Tarantella Enterprise 3, version 3.2, positioned as a managed, secure application access product that provides authorization, authentication, and accountability for enterprise systems. The software supplies integrated, managed, and secure access to server-based applications through a Web browser. This iteration of the Tarantella software focuses on security, performance, and network optimization while allowing fast and simple integration with existing corporate infrastructures.

Version 3.2 includes added support for RSA SecurID, allowing the use of highly secure two-factor authentication. According to Tarantella, the addition of Windows NT Domain authentication and Web server authentication allows for faster, seamless integration with a wide range of existing corporate standards, policies and future web-based developments.

The vendor further asserts that safe, controlled access from the widest possible range of locations is a key aspect of Tarantella Enterprise 3. In order to obtain access via leading corporate security policies without impacting them, Tarantella provides Advanced Firewall Navigation and Browser Proxy Support, features demanded by security-conscious organizations. Version 3.2 further strengthens these capabilities by including support for authenticating proxy servers.

As a result of ongoing research into wireless and mobile access, enhancements have been applied to the network optimization logic, including Packet Shaping and Advanced Flow Control.

For users that have applications utilizing thousands of colors, such as CAD-CAM, biotech, mapping or geophysics, Tarantella Enterprise 3, version 3.2 has introduced what they call "SmartColor," an extension to its unique Adaptive Internet Protocol (AIP). AIP intelligently optimizes the display of high-color applications over varying network conditions, while retaining the best quality and performance. This results in high-quality graphics over low-bandwidth lines while eliminating issues with "color palette switching."

Tarantella Enterprise 3, version 3.2 offers secure, managed access to all corporate server-based applications and services, and is available for Sun SPARC Solaris, IBM AIX, HP/UX, and all leading Linux platforms. A 30-day evaluation version is available from the vendor's download page.
