Cisco Re-Structures Security Organization

Cisco finds new leadership for its integrated security business unit.

Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) today announced an executive level shakeup in the company's security operations.

Chris Young is set to join Cisco as the new Senior Vice-President of Cisco's security business. Young will be joining Cisco as of November 14th. Young had previously been Senior Vice President, products at RSA.

"Young will take over leadership of a newly-formed Security Group which combines the security technologies group formerly led by Tom Gillis and the cybersecurity group led by Brad Boston," a Cisco spokesperson told InternetNews.com.

Cisco's current Chief Security Officer, Jon Stewart continues to report to Brad Boston.

The Cisco spokesperson said that Tom Gillis has left Cisco to try another start-up.

"Tom joined Cisco through our acquisition of Ironport and has been instrumental in driving our overall security business thus far," Cisco CTO, Padmasree Warrior wrote in a blog post. "Tom is keen to pursue his entrepreneurial passion outside Cisco."

The executive change and new security organizational structure is all part of Cisco overall effort to simplify and streamline operations. In May of this year, Cisco announced its intention to re-orgranize the business.

"We said during our Q2 earnings call that we would continue to take further actions that allow us to address market transitions with greater speed, agility and consistency," Warrior said. "Today's news is a good example of that commitment: we are evolving our operating model and investing in and strengthening our team with new talent in the process."
