Microsoft Tool Adds Zeus Detection

Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool now detects Zeus.

According to Computerworld, Microsoft has added Zeus detection to its Malicious Software Removal Tool, a free virus removal program.

The news comes on the heels of a series of raids in the United States, UK and the Ukraine that saw more than 100 members of the largest-known Zeus gang arrested.

Perhaps MSRT will have an impact on Zeus. However, it's important to note that the Trojan is easy to obtain and has been adapted by many different criminals since it first appeared four years ago. In fact, IT Business Edge blogger Sue Marquette Poremba just reported:

The [Zeus] hackers are now taking things an extra step by jamming phone lines of financial institutions so they cannot make verification calls.  All the while, the criminals are stealing money from bank accounts.
