PCMag.com reports that beginning in October, small businesses will be able to add the Microsoft Security Essentials anti-virus suite to 10 PCs at no cost.

Jeff Smith, director of Marketing for Microsoft Security Essentials, boasts:

This is a full-featured, top-tier security solution that we're offering to small businesses for free. You don't need a credit card. It requires no registration, no trials, no renewals. It doesn't collect any information. It runs well on older hardware. It's easy to use, easy to get, and it's from a trusted source. Basically, Microsoft Security Essentials just works.

SmallBusinessComputing.com notes that, technically, users can go on and download MSE and install it on as many PCs as they want. However, the license makes that illegal. A Microsoft spokesperson explains:

This extended availability to small businesses centers on a change to the end user licensing agreement (EULA) that allows small business customers to legally download the software onto individually managed business PCs.
