Spam Campaign Targets FIFA World Cup

Beware of another spam campaign using the forthcoming FIFA World Cup 2010 tournament as bait, warns Trend Micro.

V3.co.uk reports that the message carries a .PDF file attachment, which claims to contain details about a "lottery prize." The recipient is asked to provide personal information before the prize can be claimed. Jovi Umawing of Trend Micro's technical communications department says:

What was interesting [was that] the purported sender of the email -- one Mrs Michelle Matins, Executive Vice President -- was also the signatory for the 419 scam, aka the Nigeria scam.
