Zenoss Expands Network Service Monitoring
Service Dynamics looks at service impact management across physical, virtual and hybrid network deployments.
Commerical open source network monitoring vendor Zenoss is rebranding and expanding its enterprise offerings this week.
The new Zenoss Service Dynamics Suite enables network admins to monitor physical and virtual assets across a network. The system also provides service impact management to enable admins to do root cause analysis.
"We have had the core resource monitoring capabilities with Zenoss Core and Enterprise, and now what we've done is completed the visions by adding a service modeling and impact management," Zenoss CEO Bill Karpovich told InternetNews.com "So together we have an end-to-end product that is purpose built for hybrid IT cloud datacenter."
Karpovich noted that Zenoss' service impact management is automated and easy to deploy and it covers all the elements of both physical and virtual stacks. He added that in the shared and dynamic world of cloud, resources are not static.
"What we've done is we've built a patent pending technique to specify policies and it's done such that it's not brittle if things change in the underlying infrastructure," Karpovich said.
The service impact management is a key new feature that is bundled on top of the rebranded Zenoss Service Dynamics offering.
"We have rebranded and repackaged our offering under the name Zenoss Service Dynamics and what that includes is all of the visibility for all the resources, that's what Zenoss has historically had in the market," Karpovich said.
The suite also includes the Datacenter Insight capability that Zenoss announced earlier this year. Datacenter Insight provides analytics for network monitoring data.
While Zenoss is re-branding its commercial offering the open source core remains in place.
"The core resource monitoring product is open source and that strategy continues to be an important part of how we acquire customer and generate global adoption," Karpovich said. "The analytics and the service impact management are both commercial-only features."
