JupiterWeb has launched a new site devoted to coverage of voice over IP (VoIP) in the enterprise.

Enterprise VoIPplanet, which JupiterWeb officially announced today, will cover VoIP from a variety of angles, including industry news and hands-on, implementation-oriented material. Enteprise VoIPplanet and this site are owned by Jupitermedia.

According to site editor Ted Stevenson, Enterprise VoIPplanet is believed to be "the first web site devoted exclusively to IP voice technology in all its evolving forms."

The content areas found on the new site besides its news section include:

  • "Trends," which considers standards and protocol issues, industry metrics, political and regulatory developments, multi-use IP networks, and emerging areas of concern, such as voice spam, phishing, and security.

  • "Backgrounders," described as "a knowledge base for those interested in learning the fundamentals as well as the details of packet-based, converged networks" The first ten installments of the "Backgrounders" section will be written by by Mark A. Miller, P.E., president of DigiNet Corp. and author of Voice Over IP Technologies: Building the Converged Network.

  • "Solutions," which will "follow developing software, hardware, and systems, as well as engineering, architecture, and deployment strategies."

In addition to the news and features sections, a glossary links to definitions for common VoIP-related terms on a VoIPplanet-badged Webopedia page.

The site will also publish a periodic e-mail newsletter.
