Santa Clara at Heart of Data Center Demand

In an effort to meed the data center demands of corporate users, Digital Realty Trust bought two shell buildings in Santa Clara, Calif. The data center developer intends to use the buildings to facilitate six data centers totaling 48,000 square feet, San Francisco Business Times reports.

The aquisition is the latest by Digital Realty Trust, which aquired a shell building of 40,300 square feet earlier this month, according to Web Host Industry Review. Scott Peterson, senior VP of acquisition for Digital Realty Trust noted:

Combined with the acquisition of 1725 Comstock announced earlier this month, we can continue to incrementally build out and deliver turn-key space in Santa Clara to meet the strong demand in Silicon Valley for our data center product. The buildings are strategically located on a single 4.2 acre parcel across the street from our Space Park campus, allowing us to achieve meaningful economies of scale as we expand our footprint in this important, supply-constrained market

The company plans to build out the six data center PODs in two phases, with the first being operational by the first quarter of 2011.
