VMware has launched a new open source Platform-as-a-Service called Cloud Foundry. The open platform can support multiple frameworks, multiple cloud providers and multiple application services all on a cloud scale platform. According to VMware, the new platform will streamline the development and deployment of new cloud-based applications, which will in turn enable cloud users with increased adaptability and flexibility.

Cloud Foundry is being released in four variants, two of which are available now, says ZDNet UK. Currently, a free commercial VMware-operated public cloud platform and an open-source distribution are available for use. This summer a microcloud edition for development and testing, which can be mounted on a single virtual machine will be available and later this year a version for enterprises and telecoms will be released.
