Heartland to Employ Encrypted Payment System

After suffering a massive data breach a year ago, Heartland Payment Systems has announced that it is moving to an end-to-end encryption system for payment transactions, reports Computerworld.

Thales nShield Connect hardware security module, along with Voltage Security's SecureData encryption software, will be used as the basis of this capability. Merchants will be able to encrypt cards so they will not house the card numbers on their systems at all.

Heartland has been busy making amends, reaching settlements with both American Express and Visa.
