Nuvio Corporation, headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, has been providing VoIP solutions since 2003, making them relative veterans in this young industry. Nuvio’s focus is on providing business class VoIP solutions to small and medium-size businesses.

Nuvio's technology is based upon custom-developed software designed to provide stable, reliable service—which, according to the company, has been deployed at thousands of customer locations. Nuvio also offers a full software development kit that allows their services to be vertically integrated into customers' software or Web applications.

The company’s technology has garnered many accolades, including Product of the Year Awards from Internet Telephony and Customer Inter@ction Solutions magazines, an Editor’s Choice Award from IPWorld magazine; noted as one of the Top 10 Virtual PBX Providers by Business Computing magazine; and selection as one of the Top 5 VoIP Providers by the Telecom Association for years 2007, 2008 and 2009.

In addition to its headquarters in the Kansas City area, Nuvio also maintains offices in California and Ohio, and is equipped to serve the majority of the United States with both domestic and international communication services.

Nuvio offers three key services for voice communication.

The nConnect Service is a cost-effective trunking solution that allows customers both to use their current phone system and to retain their existing telephone and toll-free numbers. The nConnect system provides an interface between the existing phone system and the PSTN, using the carrier-grade Nuvio network as the link between these two systems.

The nPBX solution is designed to deliver the capabilities of an enterprise PBX to the SMB market—with all the features of a fully loaded phone system—at a fraction of the cost of a traditional PBX. Any certified phone, located anywhere an Internet connection is available, can be used to access the nPBX system, which removes any issues of geographic restrictions and allows a single receptionist to route calls anywhere in the world.

The nPBX system can also be used as a movable solution, allowing road warriors to take their phone with them, and establish a "branch office" at a temporary destination. This system features the Nuvio Portal, a Web-based system that allows end-users to manage calls in the way that they find most effective, while still allowing administrators to track user activity and make changes on the fly.

nPBX supports a long list of SIP-compliant IP phones, including those from Aastra, Cisco, Polycom, and SNOM, as well as softphone applications from CounterPath. The nPBX system includes an extensive list of end user features; bridged multi-line appearances and call groups, call forwarding options for busy, no answer, and unconditional; call conferencing with 3-way and 4-way options; intercom calling; simultaneous ringing; and message waiting indicators.

The recently announced NuvioFlex product is touted as a revolutionary way of packaging hosted PBX services: Customers can pick the number of extensions and lines that they need, and then add or subtract as necessary, thus providing a bulk package that can accommodate the number of people in the organization, without having to pay for individual plans.

The Flex option is available in three versions:

  • NuvioFlex 5 provides 5 extensions, 3 lines, full features, a toll-free number and unlimited local and long distance service for $159.99 per month
  • NuvioFlex 10 which extends to 10 extensions and 5 lines at a cost of $249.99 per month
  • NuvioFlex 25 which has a capacity for 25 extensions and 10 lines, and is billed at $499.99 per month

One of the most recent innovations from Nuvio is the company's Political Campaign Phone System, a fully hosted system that offers both local and nationwide political campaigns a flexible and cost-effective communication solution for campaign offices and call centers. This system allows campaigns to rapidly set up and configure phone communications in as little as 24 hours—including the capabilities for multi-location deployment—and requires only a simple Internet connection. The system includes a Web-based portal that lets administrators easily configure and manage the installation. Appropriately, the system is offered on a month-to-month basis, so if fundraising takes off and system demand increases (or a candidate gets knocked out in the primary election), system capacities can be easily adjusted.
