Telekenex: Meeting the voice and data networking needs of SMBs since 1996.
Telekenex, Inc., headquartered in San Francisco, California, is a privately held Tier 1 service provider with a robust international network delivering business-grade VoIP services to small and medium-size businesses. Telekenex has been serving enterprise voice and data customers since 1994, getting its start in the Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) market, and becoming a next-generation service provider in 1996.
In the succeeding years, the company has passed a number of milestones, including becoming the first company to deploy voice over frame relay in the United States (1997), being named number 62 on the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing companies (1999), launching an IP telephony service offering (2000), expanding its IP telephony nationwide (2004), receiving a Frost & Sullivan market growth award for its hosted VoIP solution (2005), and launching a managed Ethernet solution (2007).
Telekenex has around 100 employees and has sales and operating locations throughout the United States.
Telekenex services include:
- Managed Ethernet: a highly scalable and cost-effective alternative to traditional broadband access options, with bandwidth selections ranging from 5 to 40 Mbps. Additional bandwidth requirements can be easily added in small increments because of the standard Ethernet (10/100M) handoff from the Telekenex network to the customers location.
- Private MPLS + Internet: a service which fully leverages the capabilities of MPLS, allowing companies to run multiple applications at different priorities, with different QoS parameters associated with each priority, across the same connection.
- Managed Data Center: a collocation service operated from a 10,000 square foot carrier-neutral center, which allows diverse service carriers to co-locate their points of presence and access each other's services in a fully secured and supported environment.
- SIP Trunking: allows the Telekenex voice equipment to interoperate with the enterprise voice equipment over an IP network, thus creating a single, pure IP point-to-point network connection to the Telekenex cloud. Through this logical network channel, SIP sets up and tears down voice calls, from where the call is routed via Telekenex's IP backbone to its destination.
- IP Telephony: includes Cisco Hosted VoIP, which delivers carrier-class applications to customers with multiple locations and remote employees; plus a large array of premises equipment, including IP, digital, and software-based endpoints.
Telekenexs Cisco Hosted VoIP is a complete business solution that combines local and long distance service, PBX functionality, Internet access with security, private data connections between multiple locations, plus customer premise equipment (Cisco routers/switches/IP phones) in a packaged solution. Because the solution is fully managed, the customer does not have to worry about scalability or technology obsolescence risksin addition to the benefits of having no first-cost capital outlays.
This service is available anywhere in the United States, and can also be deployed anywhere in the world for remote employees. Their target market is small to medium-size businesses with one or more locations, with the typical Telekenex customer having 20 to 50 employees per location, with 3 to 5 enterprise locations, plus some remote users that also need access to the network.
The Command Center interface
For the end-user, Cisco Hosted VoIP includes a platform-independent portal called the Command Center, which allows customers full control of their phones, and also allows access to voicemail (see Figure 1). The advanced features in the portal include:
- Call Treatment: a user can specify how a specific incoming call should be treated and routed, such as Urgent Call, Find Me, Call Block, Forward to Number, Forward to Voicemail, and so on.
- Call Jump: seamlessly jumps an active call from the Cisco phone to another device, including a provision allowing that same call to be jumped back to the Cisco phone.
- Remote: incoming calls rings simultaneously to the Cisco phone and another remote phone. If call does not get answered, the caller is prompted to leave a message in the system voicemail. Remote can also be utilized to make outbound calls through the Command Center with another device, which allows the caller to display their office caller ID.
Optional value-added services can be integrated with Cisco Hosted VoIP to provide additional functionality. These include: Console Assistant: providing real time status of all the users phones; Call Recording, to easily record calls and improve customer experience; Call Center, for small to mid-size call centers; and Connectivity, a reliable and secure connection for Internet access, SIP trunking and managed Ethernet services.
