"Cisco yesterday announced the first software upgrade of an IP router on a commercial satellite and the first VoIP call made without the use of any terrestrial infrastructure to route the call," writes Urgent Communications' Donnie Jackson.
"These breakthroughs were part of the Internet Routing in Space (IRIS) testing done on the Intelsat 14 geostationary communications satellite that was launched last year with a Cisco 18400 Space Router on board, said Greg Pelton, Ciscos IRIS general manager," Jackson writes.
