sipXpbx 2.8.1 Released
SIPfoundry.org this week released the latest version of its sipXpbx open source IP PBX. Version 2.8.1 includes a number of significant improvements that extend functionality with new backup, configuration, scalability, and usability features.
Among the new features in sipXpbx 2.8.1 is the ability to handle dial plan configurations through a web based user interface. In the previous 2.6 release, an administrator had to edit the XML configuration files directly.
The move towards easier configuration of PBX features extends to call forwarding and "follow-me" features as well, with the ability to set those features up directly on a user portal. Voicemail accesses has also been improved with users now able to skip the initial greeting by hitting the "*" key.
The new version of sipXpbx now includes a web interface utility to perform full system backups as well. 911 accesses also gets a boost with sipXpbx 2.8.1 thanks to a new configuration GUI to correctly route 911 calls to the proper gateway as a fallback rule.
Scalability gets a boost with media server audio quality improvements. SipXpbx 2.8.1 can now handle up to 30 simultaneous auto attendant and voice mail connections with what SIPfoundry.org calls," much improved audio quality".
Al Brisard VP of marketing at SIPfoundry.org sponsor Pingtel noted that ease of installation and administration is key to IP PBX customers. "The new features included in this release represent a major progression for SIPxchange, as they provide fundamental improvements in the installation and administration of the system and related products," Brisard told EnterpriseVoIPplanet.com
The proposed version 3 of sipXpbx is expected to include, Attendant Console, Web-based VXML Generator, and Voice Mail Distribution Lists among other usability and performance improvements.
Pingtel recently expanded the reach of its SIPfoundry.org IP PBX offering with a new channel initiative in Europe.
