ADTRAN is no stranger to voice technology. Since 1985, the Huntsville, Alabama-based company has been pumping out last mile solutions for telecom networks.

The company is now adding to its product portfolio a pair of new Multiservice Access Gateways aimed at small and mid-size businesses. The Total Access 904 and 908 gateways are loaded with a bevy of features including: IP router, SIP gateway, call admission control, SPI firewall, IPsec VPN, Quality of Service security, and voice functionality from ADTRAN's Integrated Access Devices (IADs).

The Total Access 904 and 908 enable WAN connectivity by means of a T1 port, with a PRI/T1 port for PBX connections, four (model 904) or eight (model 908) voice ports, and a 10/100 Ethernet port for connection to a switch.

According to Chris Thompson, product manager, ADTRAN Enterprise Networks, the Total Access 904 and 908 Multiservice Access Gateways address the immediate and growing carrier need for cost-effective converged solutions for SMB VoIP applications. Thompson said that the new gateways are unique because they address a number of key applications all within a single chassis.

"The Total Access 904 and 908 are purpose-built devices that offer a specific number of analog interfaces to accommodate existing fax, modem, and other analog devices in the network," Thompson told VoIPplanet.com. "This allows customers to seamlessly integrate legacy systems with next-generation IP phones and phone systems."

Until now, in Thompson's view, the SMB VoIP market has been underserved. "Maturing technologies and the ability to offer products that are easy to use and at cost points affordable for SMB applications are keys to addressing this need," Thompson said.

The ADTRAN Total Access 904 has a list price of $1,025 and Total Access 908 is listed at $1,150.
