In a move designed to save money, Northern Michigan Substance Abuse Services, Inc. (NMSAS)—which coordinates and oversees the delivery of substance abuse services for 30 counties in that state—recently deployed SIP trunks from nationwide IP telephony provider BBTelsys.

The catch was that the solution needed to work with the agency's existing Microsoft Office Communications Server deployment, which uses TCP/IP on the customer-facing side, whereas SIP trunks use UDP.

To provide a seamless format conversion of TCP/IP to UDP, NMSAS deployed the Ingate SIParator® with the Ingate SIP Trunk Software module, which works hand-in-hand with the BBTelsys service and NMSAS' existing Microsoft OCS solution.
