LG-Ericsson USA launches iPECS-LIK family of IP communications products.
Platform encompasses IP Call Servers, endpoints, UC, unified messaging, vertical apps, and more.
Irvine, Calif.-based LG-Ericsson USA, a relative newcomer to the IP communication market in the U.S., launched its first producta hybrid key telephone systemin October of last year. (See our coverage here.)
Earlier this month, the companya joint venture of Korea-based LG-Ericsson and Taiwan-based Accton Technology Corp.announced an extensive family of IP communications products under the iPECS-LIK brand.
According to Iain Kenney, LG-Ericsson USA's director of product marketing, the heart of the LIK platform is an array of rack-mountable modular gatewaysall with the same footprintthat provide IP call services and interfaces to common trunking formats, including T-1, PRI, and SIPplus Skype Connect for SIP.
"The smallest Call Server supports serves a 10-person office," Kenney told Enterprise VoIPplanet. "The top of the line is a 1,200-line Call Server."
Additional gateways provide options for legacy connections, multimedia capability, expanded voicemail solutions, and the like. The system also includes a full line of "best-of" IP phones, a matching lineup of digital phones, and two softphone clients.
Moreover, Kenney said, the LIK systems have integrated security, and the entire family of gateways can be managed from a single portal interface.
"You can use multiple systems networked together or a single system at the head office" Kenney added.
"Take our building here in Irvine," he said. "We are using a single Call Server for the 600 users in this building. However, if we had another office in another location, then we could put another Call Server there and use it as a backup solution. We would use the main office call server exclusively most of the time, but if the Internet link went down or something like that, then the local one would take over'local survivability' we call it."
Regardless of whether one or several servers are deployed, anyone in any location that has an IP phone can register that phone with the LIK Call Server and become a part of the overall communications system.
Kenney mentioned that all LIK Call Serverys come with a couple of free licenses for Phontage, one of the company's two IP softphone solutions. "That's essentially a full key system, in terms of its button functionality," he said. "It's a fully featured telephone, with call plans, call recording, video, etc., all integrated in a desktop client."
"The other softphone takes us into the realm of unified communications," Kenney said. "It's called the UCS client, which is your messaging and whiteboarding and application-sharing calls, and it ties back to your desk phone, if you want it to do that."
In fact, both of the softphone clients will tie both to the user's desk phone and, via a feature called Mobile Extension, to a mobile phone as well. Incoming calls will ring both desk phone and cell phone simultaneously.
LIK platform calls that are answered on a mobile phone are functioning withinand have access to the features ofthe PBX. "If I answer it on my cell phone and I'm [out and about], I can actually push that call," Kenney explained"it's still part of the system. If the caller needs to talk to Peggy, I can actually transfer the call right from my cell phone. It's a very powerful feature for someone who's on the road as much as I am."
If I answer it on my cell phone and I'm queuing up at Starbucks n my flip-flops, I can actually push that callit's still part of the system. If the caller needs to talk to Peggy, I can actually transfer the call right from my cell phone. It's a very powerful feature for someone who's on the road as much as I am."
Finally, the LIK platform has Advanced Interface Messaging (AIM) for computer telephony interface with third party applications.
"We as a company have done a lot of business in the hospitality vertical over the years," Kenney told VoIPplanet. "This LIK family comes with a special tie-in to property management systems. The one we're currently certified on is the Micros Fideleo. We're working on getting certified on some other solutions as well."
