Polycom Nabs Former Cisco Executive to Run UC Effort

Move is part of a broader effort by Polycom to establish a commanding presence in the unified communications market.

"Polycom has signaled its intention to rule the unified communications space with key executive appointments and a restructuring of its development units into one R&D organization," writes Phone +.com's Charlene O'Hanlon.

"The unified communications and collaboration vendor has signed on Joe Burton, former CTO of Cisco’s Unified Communications group, as senior vice president, chief strategy and technology officer and general manager of enterprise and service provider. In his new role, Burton will be responsible for driving the efforts of Polycom as it cuts a swath through the unified communications landscape and moves into new territories such as cloud computing," O'Hanlon writes.
