Velocity Networks: a Full-service regional provider

Velocity Networks, Inc., headquartered in Hawthorne, Calif., is an ISP and Internet services company founded in 1998, that serves small and medium-size firms within Southern California, including Los Angeles County, San Diego County, Orange County, and others.
Velocity's solutions include hosted VoIP and SIP trunking, Los Angeles data center services, private network solutions, managed firewall services and business broadband. This set of managed services supplies customers with scalable, high performing technology tools and infrastructure that optimize business processes and Internet operations.
Velocity customers include the NBA, LA Fitness, Xerox, Pentel of America, Windsor Fashions, Motorola, and Sempra Energy.
Velocity Networks services are divided into four distinct areas: collocation, private network, broadband, and VoIP.
The Los Angeles Colocation Services is billed as a world-class facility, served by four wholesale service providers: AT&T, Level 3 Communications, XO Communications, and AboveNet. It provides a reliable, secure, and controlled environment for servers and key network equipment.
Private network servicesnamed the Velocity Secure Network, uses DSL circuits to create cost-effective and secure private networks, offering a guarantee of 100 percent nationwide coverage to all desired locations.
Business Broadband services support VoIP phone service, with speed options ranging from 384 Kbps to 45 Mbps, a choice of symmetric or asymmetric access, and service level guarantees.
The Business VoIP services are divided into three areas: Hosted Call Centers, SIP trunking, and Hosted PBX services.
The hosted call center service, named Seratel, is an enterprise-class, on-demand solution for distributed contact centers. This is provided on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) basis, requiring only an Internet connection, phone, and web browser at the agent locations. Seratel provides a complete suite of contact center applications, including intelligent call routing and queuing, real-time and historical reporting, supervision of agent availability, agent-level call distribution, supervisor monitoring and barge-in, conferencing, and other key features. The system intercepts calls at the edge of the carriers network via the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), and uses Call Control Extensible Markup Language (CCXML) scripts manage call control functions.
SIP trunking service provides a versatile and cost-effective solution for delivering both VoIP and data services to enterprises that still retain existing PBX or key systems. The PBX is connected to an Integrated Access Device installed on the customer premises, which is then connected to the Velocity network. Business trunks are available in four categories: Standard, Standard Unlimited, Premium, and Premium Unlimited, with a cost that ranges from $23.00 to $41.00 per month. The SIP trunking service operates with a number of PBXs, including those from Avaya, Cicso, Digium (Asterisk), Microsoft (Office Communications Server), Iwatsu, Mitel, Shoretel, Toshiba, and many others.
Velocitys hosted PBX architecture is based on a network that is designed with redundant BroadSoft switches running on an enterprise-class infrastructure. For multi-location requirements, Velocity adds a private network to the overall design.
Two different feature sets are available, the Standard Seat, which costs $30.00 per month, and the Premium Seat, which goes for $40.00 per month. Standard features, such as call hold, call return, call transfer, call waiting, and three-way calling are provided with both feature sets. Both packages also include an extensive set of messaging and voicemail features, including message management and voice messaging to e-mail conversion.
The Premium Seats add features that leverage some of the key SIP attributes, such as simultaneous ringing, find me/follow me, remote office, and integration with Microsofts Outlook. Of note, the Premium Seats also have the ability for more extensive call screening, push-to-talk service, and video add on, which may make up for the relatively small difference in monthly costs. Phones can be included (Polycomm recommended), but are not required if the customer already has compatible phones.
