Podcast: Apptix Introduces UC in the Cloud

Apptix's cloud-based offering builds on a Microsoft Exchange/SharePoint/OCS base and offers all the elements generally associated with unified communications, including voice. Vice President of Product and Software Development James Bond suggests that the efficiencies of hosted unified communications are allowing it to supersede the on-premise approach.

This week, Apptix unveiled a hosted unified communications package that includes Microsoft Hosted Exchange, OCS and SharePoint. The company says that the package offers voice, e-mail, file sharing, corporate IM/presence, Web conferencing and mobility.

James Bond, the company's vice president of product and software development, spoke to contributor Carl Weinschenk about the new offering, the evolution of unified communications in general and whether the focus is shifting from on-premise to cloud/hosted approaches.
