Podcast: Marriage of Microsoft and Skype a Win-Win

The acquisition of Skype is a major move for Microsoft and the industry-at-large, says Wainhouse Research Senior Analyst and Partner Ira Weinstein. The bottom line is that the deal is very strategic for Microsoft, though Redmond clearly paid a premium (podcast time: 12:29).

Ira Weinstein, a partner and senior analyst for Wainhouse Research, tells Unified Communications Edge's Carl Weinschenk that the deal is "fascinating," is destined to make "big waves" and will have a significant impact on how end users consume visual communications. For one thing, he says, the deal moves Microsoft from its peripheral partnership-based approach to the collaboration sector to a central position.
