Podcast: Sonian's Arnette on Unified Communications and the Cloud

Sonian Founder and CTO Greg Arnette tells site editor Carl Weinschenk that many of cloud computing's concerns and advantages are the same for unified communications as they are for traditional siloed services. The good news is that UC, despite the tight linkages between services and applications, doesn't increase the complexity of cloud initiatives (Podcast length: 17:14).

Companies thinking of hosting their unified communications infrastructures in the cloud will enjoy many of the same advantages – and should consider many of the same issues – as those using the cloud for discrete services.

Greg Arnette, the founder and CTO of Sonian, tells Unified Communications Edge that cloud-based UC is scalable, reliable, efficient and can save money. Care must be taken, however. Companies must ask potential vendors about data segregation, security of data in motion and data at rest, the ways in which cloud and premise infrastructure connect in hybrid scenarios, and other issues that are vital whenever data leaves direct control of the organization.
