VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Hosting and cloud services vendor DreamHost is now using a new open-source Software Defined Networking (SDN) technology to help enable its OpenStack powered cloud. That technology is from Akanda, a company that has now been spunoff as a new startup led by CEO Henrik Rosendahl.
In a video interview with Enterprise Networking Planetat the OpenStack Summit, Rosendahl detailed what his company is all about, and how the technology is different from others.
“It’s a controller-less architecture,” Rosendahl said.
Policy for Akanada, at the DreamHost deployment is handled by Cumulus Networks switches while OpenStack Neutron is able help provide additional management on top.
Rosendahl emphasized that Akanda was born as open-source software and will remain open-source. From a commercial perspective what Akanda provides to enterprises is support and professional services.
“Customers are looking to see if you’re hiding the goodies in some sort of an enterprise edition and they know they will be tricked if you do,” Rosendahl said. “We have been very open from the get go, saying this is 100 percent open-source and there is nothing hidden here.”
