CommVault introduced Cloud DR, a midmarket disaster recovery offering that provides higher-level business continuity without making a significant capital investment, says V3.co.uk. Cloud DR leverages Rackspace cloud hosting services but SMBs will still be able to utilize on-premise consoles to manage their backups.
Jeff Echols, senior director of cloud strategy an alliances at CommVault, said:
In the SMB space, the best alternative in disaster recovery was dumping the backups to tape and sending those tapes to a vault. But when you have a disaster strike and you’re waiting for tapes to come back from the vault, a company could be waiting for days to get back on their feet. But with the cloud, a company could recover data into these cloud servers from cloud storage in the Rackspace data center – using the internal networking of Rackspace’s data center – and a company could literally be back up in hours vs. days.
CommVault’s Cloud DR can also be used in tandem with its Simpana software platform, enabling users to manage bandwidth and cost when moving data natively in and out of the cloud, says Charlene O’Hanlon over at PHONE+ Magazine.
