Last March, Federal CIO Vivek Kundra announced a Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative with the goal of finalizing the consolidation plans by the end of this year. Yesterday, Kundra released a 25-point plan that calls for eliminating at least 800 of the government’s 2,100 data centers by 2015, reports Computerworld.
The plan reflects the introduction of a “cloud first” IT procurement policy, which will get underway in 2012, according to Information Age. In the past, Kundra has been a strong advocate for cloud computing.
