Infonetics Research released the fourth quarter edition of its new Data Center Network Equipment market share and forecast report. Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise voice and data at Infonetics Research noted:
Cisco continues to dominate the overall data center network equipment market, as few vendors can match the breadth of Cisco’s product portfolio. But in each segment, Cisco encounters strong competitors that are focused on that segment, whether it’s Juniper for data center Ethernet switches, F5 in ADCs, or Riverbed/Blue Coat for WAN optimization, and this ensures healthy competition and customer choice.
Highlights from the report include sales of data center Ethernet switches reaching $3.2 billion in 2009, switches accounting for the bulk of data center equipment revenue, and gains in the WAN optimization market.
Research firm TeleGeography released data indicating the industry’s resiliency during the recession, Data Center Knowledge reports. The firm noted in its Comms Update:
International bandwidth usage increased 60 percent in 2009, in line with the past two years, and well ahead of the trend of 2002-2006. Growth has been particularly rapid in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.
However, capacity requirements to seemingly mature markets, such as Europe and the US, have also grown at a compounded annual rate of more than 50 percent since 2002.
