Industry consultant Mark Bramfitt is working with the General Services Administration and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to develop a guidebook to aid the federal government in choosing between different types of modular and container-based data centers, ZDNet UK reports.
According to a statement written by Mark Bramfitt:
We are interested in providing a clear snapshot of the industry today, with the primary goal of describing a specification and deployment planning process that will be relevant in the future.
The federal government has already begun a large data center consolidation effort and it appears modular and container-based data centers will play a role in reducing the overall energy and real estate footprint of government data centers, in addition to reducing data center costs.
