Software Defined Networking (SDN) vendor Midokura first open-sourced its MidoNet technology in 2014 and hasn’t looked back since. At the OpenStack Summit in Tokyo last week, the company announced an update to its Midokura Enterprise MidoNet (MEM) platform and participated actively in Summit sessions.
In a video interview with Enterprise Networking Planet, Dan Mihai Dumitriu, CEO and co-founder of Midokura, explains what’s new in the latest update of the platform and how MidoNet is helping to enable SDN for the cloud era.
“We expose the OpenStack Neutron interface and we try to integrate everything from a control and management perspective through Neutron,” Dumitriu said. “Even containers and our commercial product has a VMware vSphere integration.”
The container networking piece is of particular importance to Midokura. Dumitriu explained that his company has several developers actively contributing to OpenStack’s Project Kuryr, a Docker networking inside of OpenStack effort.
While Midokura is helping to build Kuryr, from a customer perspective, it’s still early days for demand.
