Juniper Networks has announced QFabric, a family of data center products that Shamus McGillicuddy describes as component devices that are essentially abstracted elements of a physical data center chassis switch, over at SearchNetworking.com. Dubbed the first true data center fabric, Juniper claims the Ethernet fabric will help its customers simplify their data center network while ultimately redefining the way people think about managing the data center, according to Mike Vizard at CTO Edge.

Born from Juniper's Project Stratus, the first offering to emerge from QFabric is the QFX3500. The Ethernet switch is described as a high-performance, ultra low latency, feature-rich L2 and L3 solution for supporting a wide range of deployment scenarios including traditional and virtualized data centers, high-performance computing, network-attached storage, converged server I/O and cloud computing.

Juniper is testing its QFabric products with education firms, financial-services companies and health care businesses. The rest of the product portfolio is expected to come to market later this year.
