Extreme Automated Campus: Integrating Network Assets

Extreme Networks is moving quickly to integrate networking assets it recently acquired from Avaya. The Extreme Automated Campus offering integrates elements from both the Extreme and former Avaya portfolios to enable a new type of platform.

Extreme Networks acquiredAvaya’s Networking business unit in July in a $100 million deal.

“When we acquired Avaya’s networking business, we promised to deliver a stronger combined value proposition that leveraged each company’s core strengths that would best serve customers,” Dan Dulac, Vice President, Product Management & Solution Strategy, Extreme Networks, Inc, stated. “The introduction of our first integrated solution delivers on this promise just two short months following the close of the acquisition. “

The Automated Campus integrates the Fabric Connect technology as well as the VSP 8000 series Ethernet switches developed by Avaya with the Extreme Management 8.0 platform.

There are two fabric connect enabled VSP switches that are part of the Automated Campus offering. The VSP 8600 is a core chassis providing over 21 Tbps of switching capacity in a 7RU form factor. The VSP840C, is a smaller 2RU chassis designed for more flexible deployment options.

The promise of integrating the Avaya switches and fabric with Extreme’s management software is a consistent policy-based network that extends from the core of a network out to the edge, that can be managed automatically.

“We developed Extreme Automated Campus to give both Avaya and Extreme customers the best of both worlds by providing a leading end-to-end software-driven solution from the core to the wired /wireless edge – and in this case, an automated, secure, policy-enabled campus architecture that is easy to manage,” Dulac stated.
