It was in 2008 that HP acquired Wi-Fi vendor Colubris, in an effort to expand its presence in the 802.11n marketplace. Since then HP has actively grown its footprint and portfolio with 802.11n access points (APs) and controllers.
The core of the enterprise portfolio is the MSM platform which is available in various configurations. The top end MSM460 and MSM466 and scaling as high as 900 Mbps, by way of two 450 Mb/s radios.
In addition to traditional APs, the MSM portfolio also includes in-wall APs, which provide a different deployment option for enterprises as well as large facilities. The MSM access points also work together with the MSM series controllers that help to manage the devices as well as providing security and quality of service (QoS) capabilities.
The 3Com acquisition also helped to expand HP Wi-Fi assets, specifically in the small and medium sized business space.
