Brocade Gets New CEO

Networking vendor Brocade named industry veteran Lloyd Carney as its new CEO today.

Carney was formerly the CEO of data center virtualization vendor Xsigo Lloyd Carney Brocade CEOSystems and had also previously served as the CEO of network management vendor Micromuse.

“I believe Brocade is poised to leverage its heritage of strong innovation and significantly disrupt the status quo in the data-networking industry,” said Carney in a statement. “There are profound changes happening across high tech today and Brocade has a great opportunity to lead that transformation through differentiated products and customer focus.”

Carney is succeeding current CEO Michael Klayko. Klayko has been CEO of Brocade since 2005 and has overseen a period of transformation at the networking vendor.

Under Klayko’s leadership, Brocade transformed itself from being a pure play SAN vendor to become a complete networking vendor. At the core of the transformation was the $2.6 billion acquisition of networking vendor Foundry Network in 2008. The former Foundry assets now form the core of Brocade’s networking business.

Klayko has also been busy in recent years refuting rumors that Brocade was up for sale. Klayko announced in August of 2012 that he wanted to leave Brocade. “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Mike Klayko for his hard work and dedication as Brocade’s CEO for the past eight years,” said David House, the chairman of the Brocade Board of Directors. “During his tenure, Brocade gained market leadership in storage networking and Ethernet fabrics while delivering a robust, end-to-end portfolio of networking products.”
