1Gbps Fiber Network Put On Hold

AA trial service of its1Gbps fiber network has been postponed by Google after an overwhelming response from
communities. The search engine requested proposals be put together by communities stating why they should be considered as a trial location, and as Network World reports, the response was incredible. In order to carefully select the trial communities, Google’s access services president Milo Medin, revealed the selection has been delayed.

“‘We had planned to announce our selected community or communities by the end of this year, but the level of interest was incredible – nearly 1,100 communities across the country responded to our announcement – and exceeded our expectations.’
‘While we’re moving ahead full steam on this project, we’re not quite ready to make that announcement. To be clear, we’re not re-opening our selection process we simply need more time to decide than we’d anticipated,’ he added.”/p>
