Before the end of the year, reports US Financial Post, Verizon Wireless plans to launch 4G in several markets. Providing details of the plan at the CTIA Fall 2010 Trade Show, Verizon announced the plan to launch a 4G wireless network in a total of 38 markets. Claiming to be a step above the rest, Verizon’s 700MHz spectrum and higher frequency mean better in-building penetration and ability to handle upgraded and new applications.
“T-Mobile recently kicked off a marketing campaign promising what they call America’s largest 4G network. Verizon Wireless has announced a similar plan with plans to offer 4G across the United States by the end of 2011. The goal is to serve about 200 million customers with plans to expand to close to 300 million future or potential customers by the end of 2013.
Verizon Wireless is using what is called LTE (Long Term Evolution) operating on a 700MHz spectrum as the corner stone of their 4G network. This is a different technology than what T-Mobile is using. The company plans to introduce smartphones and tablet-style computers next year that will use the 4G technology. Sprint Nextel has a 4G network that uses what is called WiMax technology.”
