IT Wire reports that Billion has announced a forthcoming
firmware upgrade for its X series routers that will allow the devices to simultaneously support IPv4 and IPv6 addressing. The network hardware vendor says this update will apply to X series models. The pending transition to IPv6 was designed to overcome some of the shortcomings of IPv4, notably its relatively limited address space.
“‘Billion’s IPv6 firmware upgrade will take away the cost and pain of migration from IPv4 to IPv6 for customers who use these X series routers,’ said Stewart Goodier, general manager of Billion distributor PCRange.”
